The order of merit of the Italian republic (Ordine al merito della Repubblica Italiana) is awarded for merit acquired by the nation in the fields of literature, the arts, economy, public service, and social, philanthropic and humanitarian activities and for long and conspicuous service in civilian and military careers.
The president of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, is the head of the Order of Merit.
Paolo was knighted on June the 2nd 2018. The investiture took place at the Italian Embassy in London on February 21st 2019.
